Leaf Peeping!
On Tuesday, Ms. P. from the Science Center joined our class for a FUN outdoor lesson. After studying the different parts of coniferous and deciduous trees, we took our knowledge outdoors. We looked at maple, oak, and pine trees. Using our iPads, we took a picture of the tree, the bark, seed, and leaves. Next week, we will create our own identification books using the app Book Creator. We're looking forward to it!

We began to identify the seeds and leaves of Oak, Maple, and Pine trees which are all found in Burlington!
We were the lucky recipients of the Shelf Elf award at the school library!

Fall fun!
We had a fun week in 2nd grade!
In math:
- We learned about addition strategies, or ways to solve addition problems
- Doubles facts (2+2, 10+10, 5+5)
- Near doubles facts/neighbors, or numbers next to each other on the number line (4+5, 8+9)
- Sums of 10 (7+3, 4+6)
- Children can practice adding by rolling one die and doubling the number or adding two or three dice
In FUNdations:
- We finished Unit 2! We learned about glued sounds like am, an, ank, ing.
In writing:
- We began our own personal narratives. Students chose a topic and wrote the beginning, middle, and end. We are working on adding details so the reader truly feels like they are with the writer experiencing the same event! Miss McLaughlin wrote about her fear of flying :)
In science:
- We are finishing up learning about weather, clouds, and the water cycle. Our test is scheduled for Tuesday the 7th!
We had a VERY fun lunch group! Congrats to all the students who received lunch with the teacher coupons!
